Description
The sun sinks toward the horizen at a near-deserted beach on Captiva Island in Florida. Captiva Island is just northeast of Sanibel Island, The two islands are connected by a short causeway. They are located in the Gulf of Mexico off the west coast of Florida near Fort Myers. The beaches off these islands are beautiful and have none of the high-rises along them that you see in most of the other beaches in the state. They are world-renown for their shells. Seventy percent of Sanibel Island is preserved as conservation areas, including Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. Long-time residents of the island say that if you want to know what Old Florida was like just look at Sanibel. Captiva Island is more developed but also has beautiful beaches.
